kanda can be used in many various dishes and this particular dish from Maharashtra tastes good if made with onions and poha......

To make a kanda poha or aloo poha one needs to use a thick poha or medium thickness poha and the thin version is good for making chivda/chiwda.


Below  are the recipe details which guide you making this delicious and yet a simple poha recipe 



Cook time :-

Servings - 2 



Ingredients :-

2 cups poha/flattened rice/beaten rice 

2 cups oil 

1 tsp mustard seeds 

1 tbsp peanuts /groundnuts 

1 tbsp very finely chopped green chilles 

8-10 fresh curry leaves

3 medium size finely chopped onions/kanda 

salt - to taste 

a pinch of sugar - (optional) 

1/2 tsp turmeric powder/haldi 

2 tbsp coriander leaves 

1 medium size lemon extracted juice 


How to  make kanda
poha in mahashtrian style :-


Step 1 :-

Firstly take a strainer, into it add poha and wash poha twice and set it aside for about 5-10 minutes and let the water drain out completely. excess washing and soaking makes the poha saggy  therefore, do not do it.

Step 2 :-

Take a pan/kadhai, into it, add oil and heat it then add mustard seeds and let them crackle, add peanuts and roast for few seconds and now  add finely chopped green chillies and suate, add curry leaves into it and sute well after its turn to add chopped  onion in it and saute well for few  seconds.


Step 3 :- 

Now moving on next step  after onion saute add salt to taste in it and add some sugar crystals (this is is totally optional) and stir well. now add turmeric powder and mix well. add washed poha into it mix the poha well with cooked onion mixture now add some freshly chopped coriander leaves into it and  add lemon juice extract in all over, mix all over mixture and cook for few seconds.



Ready to serve mahashtrian poha for morning and tea time snack ☺
